Files & workspace
Your workspace
Synthetic BrAIn keeps its work in its own workspace — a dedicated area on your device where your projects, notes, and the assistant's outputs live. By default, everything the assistant reads or writes happens inside this workspace.
Working with your own folders
Sometimes you'll want the assistant to help with files that live elsewhere — a project folder, an external drive, a documents directory. When that happens:
- The app asks your permission for the specific folder you choose.
- Access applies only to that session — it is never remembered silently. The next time, it asks again.
- When you allow access, you are directing and authorizing the file operations in that folder, and you accept the risk to those files (including accidental change, move, or deletion).
What stays off-limits
Certain protected locations are never accessible, even inside a folder you grant — for example system credentials and the app's own engine and secure store. This keeps a granted folder from becoming a way around the app's safety boundaries.
Good habits
- Keep backups of anything important before letting an assistant modify files in bulk.
- Review proposed changes when the assistant is set to ask first (see Chat, agents & the sandbox).
- Grant the narrowest folder that gets the job done, rather than a whole drive.
